Cactus, TX, Beef Production Facility

Cactus Beef University

The JBS USA beef team in Cactus, TX, believes that a good leader is the result of hard work, dedication and development. That is why they created the Cactus Beef University program in March 2018. Every Wednesday, classes are provided at the facility to newly-promoted supervisors or team members training to be supervisors in the near future. Topics covered in class include the company’s Mission & Values, team member safety, food safety, human resources, accounting, product yields, 5S and cattle procurement, to name a few. Participants are provided questions at the beginning of the class to reflect upon throughout the session, helping them identify the most important points and learnings to take away.

In 2018, 33 total topics were taught in Cactus Beef University, with several being repeated throughout the year as refresher courses and to accommodate new team members. Additionally, class participation for the year ranged from 25 to 30 team members per class. As a result of the program, the leadership development of past participants has been very positive at the facility. Twenty program graduates were promoted to supervisor roles in 2018, and three were selected as upcoming JBS USA Internal Talent program participants.

“We wanted to make sure we are making a weekly commitment to development from within our facility on top of the courses offered through the Corporate Leadership training,” said Cassie Hataway, Cactus HR Director.
